In 1988, historical and archaeological surveys were made under contract with the City of
Bradenton by archaeologist Marian Almy, owner of Archaeological Consultants, Inc. In this
survey she recognizes areas of interest, historical sites and historical homes within the city.
In her report she states, “in an urban setting, such as that which characterizes much of the
project, the material remains of past human activity are frequently thought to be destroyed
but there are many positive reasons to undertake such research, for example the potential
significance of a single archaeological site or group of sites by studying the past we gain
perspective about our future.’
These sites were our starting points of interest, sites we determined needed to be studied,
protected and preserved. We started immediately researching and found that this area is
rich in history. The more information we uncovered the more layers we found still needing to
be uncovered. Armed with a love of the history, knowledge of its importance not only locally
but nationally, we developed an overwhelming need to see that this area is protected and
preserved for future generations. As we have come to find out, this Spring Site has been
used as a safe haven and source of fresh drinking water for hundreds of years by a
multitude of cultures and nationalities.
Many of the sites Ms. Almy designated in the survey are visited during our historical tours.
These historic sites and homes really help us to see why we, even years later, still live in this
safe haven of Manatee and why we need to protect the history. After all we are living
tomorrow's history, today. Come out and join us for a tour of these historic sites and see
history.

Protection of these historic sites, houses and artifacts go hand-in-hand with
preservation. When a site, house or object is found to be of historical significance
we work tirelessly to make sure that it will be preserved thus protecting it for future
generations. Reflections works diligently to preserve as much of these histories as
they can. Here is a sampling of things we are doing or have done:
