Attend an archaeological educational lecture
and short tour of the Manatee Mineral Spring
Homestead guided by Sherry Svekis,
Educational Director for Reflections of
Manatee, Inc.  This interesting tour will guide
you through the Manatee Mineral Springs
history from the archaeology prospective
beginning with Florida's First Peoples and
Spanish Occupation through to the 19th
century homes on site. This discussion will
enlighten participants to the rich history of
Manatee County where the first settlers
stepped ashore in 1842.  Also featured in
discussion will be New College's activities in
connection with the search for the "Lost
Settlement of Angola" a run-away slave
settlement known to be in the area
1810-1820. Lecture is outdoors; limited
amount of seating available; so...participants
are encouraged to bring a folding chair.

Tour of the Manatee Settlement

4:15 - 6:30 pm
1312 2nd Ave East,  two blocks North of SR
64.  Tour begins at thr Manatee Mineral
Springs Park. Parking in the field west of the
spring park or on the street.
Learn about the first settlement on the
Manatee River while walking under
the canopy of majestic oaks. Visit a
sugarcane field and learn about the
Seminole Uprisings
and the Civil war soldiers, both Union and
Confederate from the settlement. Tours are
free, donations are accepted.

Gamble Plantation Open House

Here the story of the settlement and the sugar
cane culture that brought settlers to the Manatee
River.

Try your hand at pushing the cane grinder, taste
some juice or lemonade, and bring home some
sugar cane molasses or syrup.

Gamble Plantation is the only surviving
antebellum plantation in south Florida. in
Ellenton, Florida

Pioneer Party and Curry Descendant
Reunion
March 5th     10AM-4PM

Join us for our 10th Annual Pioneer Party.  
Come enjoy a southern feast of Smoked
Mullet and Turkey with all the fixins! Cost:
Food provided by donation. Food served
starting 11:00.  Games for young and old
along with prizes...all day. Re-enactors
portraying the Black Union Soldiers who
occupied the Curry houses during the Civil
War will be on site, along with their horses.
Learn about the settlement's  fascinating
Civil War history.  CALLING ALL CURRY'S
and Manatee Descendants! This year's party
will host a Curry Family Reunion. Many Curry
and other Manatee County descendants are
expected to attend.  Enjoy a family fun day
with Reflections of Manatee volunteers and
members.

Join Reflections volunteers our volunteers portraying
settlers traveling on the Pine Level Trail to finalize their
homesteads under the Armed Occupation Act of 1840
and the Swamp act of 1849.

Try your hand at pushing the sugarcane grinder and taste

Visit the real Florida Homestead, blacksmith shop and
Museum as well as the 1880 restored homestead house.
Take a walk on the boardwalk over the Myakka River and
just enjoy a pioneer day of events and nature combined.

This unique tour is designed to address topics of
previous monthly tours.  Hosted by Founders of
Reflections of Manatee, Inc. Jeff and Trudy Williams,
this tour will accommodate questions and answers of
historical topics on various historical aspects of the
property.  It will include architectural discussion of
the homes as well as archaeological activities that
have taken place on site. Guests are invited to bring
their historical or archaeological artifacts for further
discussions by attendees.  Some artifacts found on
